Moss & Heart
Montessori School

Moss Heart Montessori School values providing education of the highest quality for the whole child (mind, body, and soul) through passionate, qualified Guides*.
*The term ”Guide” refers to the prepared adult in the Montessori classroom guiding children in their development and learning.
“Respect all the reasonable forms of activity in which the child engages and try to understand them.”
The Inner Child
Moss & Heart is committed to supporting Emotional Intelligence and Regulation in the young child. Healthy emotional development is of utmost importance during the early years of life.
Montessori Ed.
Montessori Education is based on scientific research, which supports the child’s natural development, follows the child’s interests, is founded on respect for the child as an individual, with the aim to be education for peace.
Tuition
Our school is committed to paying teachers not only a living wage but a salary that reflects their knowledge, skills, and commitment to caring for and helping to raise children in our community.

A school that feels (almost) like home.
Humans learn best when we feel safe, regulated - physically and emotionally, and when we are having fun. For this reason, our goal is first and foremost to create a welcoming and caring environment for your littles and your family. As we emerge from the pandemic, our focus on social-emotional intelligence has never been more crucial. Here, every child is seen as an individual with valid emotions and unique personalities, setting the stage for engaging and effective learning experiences. By nurturing their emotional well-being first, we create a supportive environment where curiosity thrives and exciting lessons come to life. Our goal is to empower each child to grow confidently, equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with the resilience and empathy to navigate the world beyond our classrooms.
Effective Communication
Moss Heart uses American Sign Language (ASL) to encourage communication in the young, non-verbal child. Use of ASL can help eliminate frustration for the child and the caring adults. Children can also communicate with one another using ASL.
Nutrition for Body & Mind
Our school offers nutritionally-balanced snacks and lunch*. Current recipes are ovo-vegetarian; however, menus will be conscious of our current cohort’s food values and as accommodating as possible for allergies. Amy’s family cooks South Indian cuisine for the majority of meals, so those recipes - adjusted for spiciness - may be offered occasionally.
Food can be served family-style, allowing children to explore new flavors and different cultures. This creates a sense of camaraderie when exploring new foods, and helps create community in the classroom.
Each meal, including lunch and snacks, is thoughtfully prepared with a balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, or protein for steady energy and growth. When sugars are offered, they’re provided in whole foods or paired with fiber to support balanced absorption.
*Lunch and snacks are included at no extra cost.
The Prepared Adult
Our Guide, Amy, has over a decade of professional experience caring for young children and working alongside their parents (and often extended families). She is AMI*-trained in both Assistants to Infancy (ages 0-3 years) & Primary (ages 3-6 years), and holds a Master’s in Education with a focus in Montessori Ed.
Since June 2016, she has worked with a number of families in their homes as a Montessori Nanny. She is excited to serve a larger community with a fully curated environment, while still providing a high standard of care.
